This modern beach house in the Kitsilano area was built to maximize the site’s spec- tacular view of English Bay, the North Shore mountains, and the city skyline. An open living space, frameless glazing, neutral colour and material palette complement the minimal lines of the architecture and blur the lines between the home and nature, interior and exterior spaces.

This West Vancouver home reflects the clients’ love of the Caribbean Island of Mustique, and endeavours to suit year-round enjoyment of the waterfront location. The home’s style was inspired by the house designs of stage designer Oliver Messel, playing on the traditional colonial Caribbean vernacular with a theatrical twist. Wide elliptical arches, a signature Messel detail, are incorporated throughout the home, and subtle tropical references and details are found throughout.

Notable features: wide elliptical arches, vaulted bedroom ceilings, exposed rafter details at the soffits, stylized pineapples in the millwork
