This extensive renovation project, located on a steep, rocky site in West Vancouver, had dual objectives: to gracefully adapt the 1950s post-and-beam structure to the rugged site, and to showcase the owner’s significant art collection. The gallery expansion near the entry enhanced the openness of the main living area, with clerestory windows admitting northern light to illuminate the owner’s art collection and a vertical entry skylight capturing views of the site’s towering cedars. Outside, a lotus pond collects rainwater, which spills over a waterfall into a granite reflecting pool situated below the master bedroom addition.

Winner, Canada Wood Council Award, 1998

This modern beach house in the Kitsilano area was built to maximize the site’s spec- tacular view of English Bay, the North Shore mountains, and the city skyline. An open living space, frameless glazing, neutral colour and material palette complement the minimal lines of the architecture and blur the lines between the home and nature, interior and exterior spaces.
