Completed in 1999
The aim of this renovation project was to transform a traditional post-and-beam structure into an open but spatially defined modern villa by the sea. Substantial upgrades were made to achieve this objective, and to connect the home to its environment to the highest possible degree. Stunning views of the Burrard Inlet, Stanley Park, and Vancouver Island informed the home’s orientation, and materials such as concrete and basalt were selected to complement the natural oceanfront landscape. Highlighting the technical and environmental challenges inherent in any site, roofs, decks, and membranes were rebuilt to respond to the home’s location at the terminus of an extensive natural drainage system.
Notable features: hard landscaping, pre-existing 6’ x 6’ grid, zinc-edged roof, west side trellised deck
